Rolling rolling rolling raw drive

Such an exciting week as things look more complete inside and outside now.  We started with the last electrics getting fitted and the plumbing all done.  Tiling is done and dusted too and Joe had a good clean up inside and got rid of the rubbish and vacuumed the house out ready for Thursday for the carpet laying.

So it was all go on Thursday morning even the weather joined in and thoroughly chucked down with rain...sods flaming law!  But the carpet man (sorry didn't catch his name) was busy getting all the grip strips and underlay cut for the floors and the lovely boys from BOP Asphalt were there despite the horrible weather.  After marking out where the drive and paths were going and getting soaked in the process they managed to get the timber edging up by the front entrance before they decided to call it quits as the rain just didn't ease up at all.  As it was morning tea time the boys pulled out their pack ups and had a break I loitered around doing some chasing of subbies on the phone and then the best thing ever happened....It stopped raining!  Lucky us as they then got back into it and they had called the workshop to find everyone else from the company had abandoned ship for the day with the rubbish weather and gone home.  So by the end of the day they had finished doing all the timber edging and dug out where needed and compacted gravel here and there.  Ian from Reditile popped back to clean up the tiles surface in the ensuite and another bloke (Chris) came and installed both the bathroom mirrors.  Things are looking so nice in the bathrooms and kitchen now the tiling is done and Joe has unveiled the bench tops and tided up.

Friday we got up there about 1pm and the boys were at it again with more gravel and a bigger roller getting it compacted and leveled.  As we pulled into the street the carpet chap waved as he drove past and I assumed he would be going for lunch...well he made an ass out of you and me of course and we went inside to see he had finished!!  Looks so nice and it feels super soft and spongy underfoot.  Good old Cavalier Bremworth carpet in this new lofty loop pile which is divine to walk on.  The girls rooms being pink make the floors look darker but I'm sure once the beds and furnishings go in it will be better.  We are looking forward to the following week as the drives and paths will be done and the crossing will be cut and hopefully poured once the asphalt is done.

The asphalt boys are such a nice bunch of blokes and all worked so well together and always were joking and having a laugh which was nice to see as some of the crews who have been working on the house were a pack of right miserable buggers and made you feel like leaving the site....you know who you are you grumpy bastards!

  1. Ok, so it does look like it just rains every other day in NZ....

Thanks for the blog - it's been a hoot to read - (or singing for most of the titles)... only one I'm following outside of my estate well done.

Hope you keep it going once you move in.

  3. It's nice having someone appreciate your work/choices isn't it? I found and read your replies to the other posts - I just wish there was a way to be notified of comments on other people's blogs you have commented on.

One thing... I couldn't find a floorplan anywhere in your blog, are you allowed to post it up for us or is it an architect copyright thing? I'm curious how the whole thing hangs together.

And the covenant you had to add the pillars for? Sounds odd... I mean we had to have a 3m wide wall 860mm in front of the garage (though someone on a wide frontage put a side garage door and windows to the front to make it look like the house and that was approved)... covenants just a pain really - especially when you comply and no-one else does!

  4. Funny you say that I tried to put one on this morning but it failed so will save in a different format to hopefully get it on the blog.
